William Henry Woods, Jr.
June 15, 1955 - October 15, 2010
SAVANNAH – William Henry "Chip" Woods, Jr. , age 55, passed away October 15, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Chip was born in Savannah on June 15, 1955.
He was a 1973 graduate of Savannah Christian Prep School and attended Armstrong State College. He was employed with International Paper for twenty-seven years before being a project manager with MacAljon. He was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church where he served as an usher.
He was a member of Solomon's Lodge #1, F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Savannah, and the Alee Shrine Keystone Kops. He was also a member of the Royal Order of the Jesters, Court # 134.
He was known as an avid golfer and a member of the LaVida Country Club. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Forest City Gun Club. He was known as one of the best ball players in Savannah, having played softball for years and following one of the many tournaments in which he participated was named Most Valuable Player.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and a true friend to many. Known for his great sense of humor and dry wit, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry "Hank" Woods, Sr. and a granddaughter, Kaylee Mae Hinely.
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Janice Watson Woods of Savannah; two daughters, Taylor Watson Woods and Erin Hinely, and her husband Johnny, both of Savannah; a grandson Konnor Mason Hinely; his mother, Marguerite Maggie Collins Woods; a brother, Wesley W. Woods, Sr., both of Savannah; a sister, Hollie Woods Boyles and her husband Eric, of Burleson, Texas; two nieces, Maggie Boyles and Shelby Boyles; two nephews, Wesley Woods, Jr. and Patrick Kenard.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. Masonic Graveside services will follow in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Shepard, Tom Fogarty, Todd Barker, Barry Brennan, Kenny Edwards and Elie Scott.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Alee Shrine Keystone Kops and Ed Zipperer.
The family suggests that remembrances may be made to the Morris Slotin Fund, P.O. Box 14147, Savannah, GA 31416, Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or Isle of Hope United Methodist Church, 412 Parkersburg Road, Savannah GA 31406.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I regret that I can’t be closer to Savannah during this time. Chip's charm and good humor will be truly missed. Hope to see everyone soon.
